Human Liver Transplant Information: Living Liver Transplantation Law
A recent news article in the October 13th edition of the Los Angeles Times, entitled "Deception Behind Liver Transplant Switch Proved to be Fatal," by Charles Ornstein and Alan Zarembo, details the story of a St. Vincent Medical Center patient who in 2003 was passed over on a human liver transplant list and died of liver failure, allegedly due to negligence and deception on the part of doctors and hospital employees. The liver transplant article goes on to report that dozens of other patients in Southern California at that time who were in more dire need than the ultimate recipient were also passed over for a liver transplant . It appears that hospital personnel falsified records so that the deception was not uncovered until an audit was performed of the hospital earlier this year.
